Thanksgiving

autumn-2905_1280Fall is in the air. Starbucks is serving pumpkin spice lattes, football is on TV, and Houston seems to be cooling down little by little. Happy November! This month is about Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because…it’s about food. You were waiting for something more profound, but that’s it. Just the food. As a second generation Filipino American, there are always two full feasts at our Thanksgiving table. The traditional American Thanksgiving fare of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole sits beside Filipino comfort foods—pancit noodles, adobo chicken, rice, and egg rolls.

Can’t Sleep?

Pain and sleep are directly proportional. If one gets worse, so does the other. If one gets better, so could the other. Dealing with pain can leave one feeling stuck in a catch 22—the pain keeps you from getting to sleep and lack of sleep makes the pain worse.

Is there anything that can break this cycle?

Sleep hygiene can help you fall asleep and stay asleep more successfully. What is sleep hygiene? It doesn’t mean take a shower before bed. Sleep hygiene is a term used to describe practical steps that will help you achieve the right physical and mental frame of mind for a good night’s sleep.
